Client: English Partnerships with W S Atkins
Award: BALI Principal Award
Location: Greenwich, London
As part of the sustainable regeneration of the Greenwich peninsula in London, we co-ordinated the scheme design of a new park, also providing landscape and all the ecological expert inputs into the design. This innovative park sits at the heart of the Greenwich Millennium Village, and includes a controlled access 'core' in a wider designed marshland landscape, close to River Thames. Further inland, amenity parkland is enhanced by a design incorporating wild flora in low-nutrient substrates.
The whole park is constructed completely on reclaimed and decontaminated land. The park design is intended to attract a high bird species diversity in moderate numbers, complementing the habitats of the adjacent tideway. There is a reception centre with offices for a warden, and many educational features from ponds to deadwood refuges and bat towers.
The work was undertaken in co-operation with a consultancy team that included Richard Rogers Partnerships, Desvigne Dalnoky, Battle McCarthy and WS Atkins, all working on behalf of English Partnerships.
