The Highways Agency is proposing to improve the A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down trunk road which passes Stonehenge.

The scheme is being promoted for environmental reasons, principally to remove the road from the World Heritage Site which is based upon the world famous Stone Circle. It will also provide a bypass for the village of Winterbourne Stoke.

The scheme proposes the creation of a 2.2km tunnel within the World Heritage Site and the restoration of land on the present route of the A303. The existing A344, which runs adjacent to the Stones, is also proposed to be restored, under parallel procedures.

Our work has included inputs to the Environmental Impact Assessment including the production of a scoping report, detailed ecological surveys, an ecological assessment of the route corridor, and landscape, land use and planning surveys.
