Kingsteignton, Devon

Kingsteignton, near Newton Abbot, Devon includes an area of dense commercial forestry as well as a derelict former post war Polish camp for WWII veterans.

We have worked on a number of projects in the locality, the first of which was to successfully achieve an outline planning permission for a Trunk Road Services Area (TRSA). The site was located adjacent to the A38, a major road artery.  We coordinated the Environmental Impact Assessment, and prepared a landscape and visual impact assessment using an interactive 3D computer model including assessment of impacts on the adjacent Stover School and Stover Park, an important Grade II listed building and Historic Park and Garden.  This was used to guide locations of buildings and where to retain existing trees.  We also prepared a landscape masterplan and worked extensively with the project ecologist as the site contained protected species. We acted as the expert landscape witness at the Public Inquiry. Thereafter we successfully overturned a draft TPO on the site trees and plantations, acting at an appeals committee.

In addition, we also prepared detailed proposals and successfully discharged the planning conditions (of an extant outline permission) for a 300 unit static caravan site on the former Polish camp. This comprised a comprehensive masterplan and detailed landscape proposals.  We also let a contract for screen planting and oversaw its implementation.
